Is it possible to pass 9-bit UART data?

  • #2
The standard firmware is not designed to work with 9-bit mode. However, you can set the configuration for 8 data bits with even/odd parity and you should be able to receive the data bytes in the serial to network direction, but the value of the 9th bit will be lost. Normally the 9th bit is only high for the first byte containing the address byte of the protocol. You won't be able to send data correctly in the network to serial direction because there is no way to control the 9th bit.

Otherwise you would need a custom build of firmware to fully support 9-bit mode.

      Ed,

I am using address mode as you described. I assumed it wouldn't work out of the box but wanted to verify. Thanks for the confirmation.
