  • xPico Wired - Alternate PCB Integration

I am working on integrating the xPico device into a device that is very space limited. The mounting holes recommended by the integration guide occupy valuable board space. Has anyone mounted the xPico device by soldering the shield tabs to the host PCBA? My hope is that the xPico modules could be hand added to the board, before the reflow operation.

My main concern is if the shield tabs on the xPico device could change over time, rendering this method potentially invalid. Are there any other concerns? Units will be vibration tested and can be strain relieved, if needed.

    Thanks!

    Hi Jeremy,

That's not what those tabs were designed for, so it can't be guaranteed that they'll match in length. Since the xPico needs to be parallel to the mating board to avoid stressing the connector, using the tabs to secure the xPico is not recommended.

        Hi Mariano,

Thank you for the reply and the information. I will avoid using the tabs for mounting the xPico.

        Thanks!
